Sha Tin-Tai Po-Yau Ma Tei-Flying back

1/1 - 1/2 Last Day in Hong Kong!

overcast 15 °C

1/1
Sha Tin

We were too tired to write the last two days. On the 1/1, we went to the Temple of 10,000 Buddhas in the morning. We took the MTR to the New Territories route and got off at the Sha Tin Wai station. The temple is 15mins away from the station. It is located at the foot of a hill, in order to get to the temples, there are many stairs to climb. On the way to the temples, there are lots of golden statues on both sides of the stairs.

On the walls of the lower level temple hall are shelves with lots of tiny golden Buddha statues, I believe there are more than ten thousand! On the upper level of the temple, there are worship halls and there are also lots of other gold statues.

Tai Po
We then took the train to Tai Po and took a taxi ($20 with tips) to the Lam Tsuen Wishing Trees. It is one of the popular shrines in Hong Kong. People burnt joss sticks, wrote their wishes on joss paper tied to an orange, and threw them up to hang in those two banyan trees. People believed that if the paper successfully hung onto one of the trees branches, their wishes will come true. We tried so hard, and finally Emily and I successfully hung the orange and paper onto the tree, but Vanessa tried so hard and until the orange exploded. lol...but we did enjoy throwing the orange. Afterwards, we took the taxi back to Tai Po city to have lunch. We went to the famous restaurant for traditional Peaking Duck which tasted really good!

Afterwards, we rent the bike and cycling around the river( Shing Mun River) from Tai Po back to Sai Tai. It took around ond and half hours. Afterwards we went to the Snoppy Land in Sai Tai, then we took the MTR to Yau Ma Tei. Vanessa and Emily bought lots of Snoopy dolls, I didn't know that they are snoopy fans!!!

Yau Ma Tei
We were getting hungry and decided to eat one of the famous foods in HK - Chui Chow Food in Yau Ma Tei. We ordered Gong Fu tea, it was bitter. But we enojy the food and specially the Oyster rice soup. I couldn't believe we order 8 dishes plus the soup!!! We were so full, but it was so cheap, less than $150! After supper, we went to explore Yau Ma Tei - Temple Street. There were hundred of little stalls appear in Temple Street at night time. There were carts bulge with goods, from casual wear to mobile phones and watches. We were so lucky that we had the chance to watch the impromptu Chinese street opera. On the side of the street, there were fortune-tellers and even street dentists. I hope it's safe and clean to have dental care on the street!!! Along the street, lots of food stalls abound too, serving up snacks and dishes, and we could sat on the street and enjoy those traditional chinese snacks. It's only cost $5 per dish. Is it nice? It's getting late, but Vanessa didn't want to go back to the hotel because it was the last night in HK; so we went to the pub nearby. We were having lots of fun!
